the art of bargaining
a short story THE ART OF BARGAINING "Bhaji lo Bhaji" called the vegetable vendor.
It was a sunny morning,Kaveri came out from her bunglow in her light blue nighty after hearing "bhaji lo bhaji". Her husband was working in shipping company. He could visit her only once in two years .She had every thing she needed. Her son was in a good school far from the society they lived. Her son apart from studing was learning everything from piano to abacus and of course karathe. His school bus received him at 7.00 in the morning and left him back at 9.00 at night.Kaveri was proud of everything she had.
"Bhindi kitne ka bhai saab" ,started kaveri, the vegetable vendor replied it is Rs15 after fifteen minutes of bargaining Kaveri ends up in buying them for Rs 10,and started looking for money in her purse. She felt proud of her art for bargaining.
Her eyes met with radha."Namasthe bhabhi" they greeted each other.Radha was of same age as Kaveri. They often met in the bank were Radha used to deposit money and Kaveri used to withdraw.Kaveri then learned that Radha was staying in a small cottage opposite to kaveri's kitchen's window. After the meeting at the bank Radha waved at evenings.Kaveri also strated to have the view of the family from her window.
Radha was wearing a bright red sari with some shinning dots on it.Her bangles and anklets chimes gave her a unique presence.Radha's bhindhi was red bright giving a complex to her saree. Radha's husband was a government employee.Kaveri never knew how much that man earned but was sure it was much lesser than her husband's.Radha's husband left home at eight in morning and would be back at 4.00 with some plastic bag having road side eatables.Radha and her son, who reached home by 1.00 noon from a nearby school, would grow happier after seeing that bag.
"Bhindi kitne ka bhai sab", equired Radha unaware of Kaveri's bargain. Vegetable vendor replies it Rs 15.Radha pays Rs 15 which was ready in her hand and leaves by greeting once again,"Namasthe Bhabhi".before Kaveri could say anything a question filled her heart"What am i proud from 'bargain of vegetables' or by 'bargain of life' ?"
